Multiple Sizes in One embodies a vision of femininity through transforming silhouettes that allow for the garments to be modular. It is inspired by the woman in my life, architectural structures and tropical flowers in my grandparent’s garden in Puerto Rico. Through the use of expanding and contracting textiles, accessible closures, and inclusive sizing the collection creates adaptive and accessible clothing that makes getting dressed an easier task for those with limited mobility.
New Perspectives is a cohesive collection of garments created with the silhouettes and cutouts that came about from shadow manipulations. Inspired by living in the city of New York and its architecture, I developed a ten-look collection featuring ever-changing shapes on the body created from shadows. Utilizing fabric manipulations I designed of strategic laser cut leather, and buckram to make an architectural silhouette that helped raise the garment away from the body to create the shadow.
The collection features fifteen looks that are inspired by the working woman in New York and her ability to adapt based on the setting and her personality. The garments are functional and can be adjusted by the wearer to choose how revealing it will be, and the colors are matched with specific personality traits based on peoples first impressions of it. Each garment gives the option of choosing how others will perceive you based on the silhouette, and colors that portray a specific impression of oneself.
Inspired by the Botanical Gardens in the Bronx and its overwhelming amount of beautiful plants and nature in comparison to the single human that is visiting, this collection features a combination of textures and silhouettes that create the feeling of being overwhelmed by the density of the shapes on the body but also calmed by the beauty in each piece. Creating an experience of an overwhelming amount of beauty through shapes and textiles, making the wearer feel like one inside something much more complicated and larger than themselves but still beautiful.
This project developed a new t-shirt design from old t-shirts that repurposed them and created new content. With three shirts, the most important pieces from each one was made the focus on the new garment. Emphasizing the message of having the power to create art with the hands holding the paintbrushes image and being able to express oneself as they desire with the words on the side bottom. This garment creates the message of having the power to create something new and engaging out of multiple sources of influence.
Macramé Textile Project
This project features the art of macramé in combination with pants that can be worn in two different silhouettes. The handmade macramé was created using the pattern of the pant and the shape to create the custom size of the design. The design of the pants can transform into two different silhouettes by bringing in the bottom and securing the new style with a hook & eye on the inner side of the leg opening. Giving the wearer the option of two styles with their garment.
One Size Fits Multiple Project
This project developed a shirt that has a range of three sizes based on the adjustable collar and pleated back yoke. The accessible closures of snaps on the collar allows for the selection of different widths and the design allows for the same look in all sizes. Including the three sizes in one dress shirt and still keeping the same look in all.
